Nvidia Pledges Computing Resources to Support UK AI Safety Research
The Guardian reported that Nvidia will provide $250m worth of computing power over five years to support AI safety and security research in the UK.

Nvidia has pledged $250m worth of computing power to support UK AI safety research over five years, according to The Guardian. The US chipmaker’s commitment will provide researchers with computing resources delivered through UK-based datacentres using Nvidia chips.
Both describe the donation alongside government confirmation that the AI Security Institute, or AISI, can examine advanced technology developed by companies including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google before release.
The fuller report clarifies that Nvidia did not name AISI in its statement. Instead, the company said most of its commitment would support the wider UK AI safety and security research community.
According to The Guardian, a proportion will go to the British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab, Imperial College London and the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab. The latter is run by Edinburgh, Cambridge, Oxford and University College London universities.
Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang described the resources as supporting researchers’ efforts to develop, test and strengthen safeguards for increasingly powerful AI, the outlet reported. The Guardian described Nvidia as the world’s most valuable company, worth $5.5tn, or £4.1tn.
UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan welcomed the announcement as recognition of the country’s research expertise, according to The Guardian. The outlet also reported that he confirmed on Monday that AISI was testing US-developed models before release, following reports of restricted access.
The Guardian placed the pledge amid growing concerns about AI agents capable of autonomously planning and performing sequences of tasks. Its fuller account reported incidents involving OpenAI agents and warnings from Narayan about UK cyber defences, providing the security context for the research commitment.
